On 28 June we published the arrival of the first lorry with cork to our facilities. Even with four days in advance we must announce that we have already finished the 2017 cork harvest. The reason why we have finished these four days ahead of schedule has been the nature itself, since with the prolonged excess of temperature, the tree closes and does not give more cork. However it has not affected us much, because, as it can be seen in photo 1, our yard is already full.
This year all the cork comes exclusively from Extremadura. As it is known, since 2000 we control the traceability of the cork stoppers from start to finish, which implies a high degree of commitment, because we must be able to anticipate our needs for cork stoppers two years in advance, and, therefore, we have to plan the cork purchase in accordance with these needs.
However, despite the difficulties that sometimes it implies, we are interested in controlling the process from the beginning, as it is the only way to guarantee the safety and quality of the cork stoppers, which will be later in contact with such a delicate product like wine.
For that reason we must also be prepared for this kind of contingencies and take them into account. That is why we can guarantee our customers that we will not have any supply problems in the next two years even with a growth of 30 or 40%. We have covered our needs for 2018 and 2019, as it can be seen in the photos.
