That is the way in which we think we should study the cork stoppers for great wines.
Along the last years, by recommendation of several oenologists worried about the sealing of some wines (those of long life or quite special whites), we have decided to make cork stoppers of a bigger diameter, even for standar bottles of 18,5 mm.
For this reason, since more or less a year and a half, in GLM we produce cork stoppers of 25 and 26 mm. of diameter, in the three standard lengths; 54, 49 and 44 mm.
It is absolutely proven that with the cork stopper we get the best conservation and evolution of wine in the bottle:
- It avoids leak of liquid.
- It allows a very slow oxygenation of the wine in the bottle, letting it to complete and enrich in scent, so that it gets more complexity and elegance. Prove of this is that the ageing in bottle of great wines could last lots of years
- It limits the loss of free sulfurous acid and lengthens the life of wine in the bottle.
- It offers a good mechanical behavior and permits easily its introduction and extraction from the bottle.
- In resume, a natural product like the wine should, all its life, go along with other natural product: THE CORK STOPPER.
GLM submits its cork stoppers to very strict controls to be able to guarantee the traceability at 100% and to obtain the most quality and security in food industry.
The cork stopper is the sealing mostly preferred by the consumers of medium and great wines.
The unequivocal sound produced for a cork stopper when it is extracted for the bottle is considered one of the most important rituals in wine consuming.
