And yes, in my way of putting it, I want to point out that, after approximately 75 days, all of us who have been involved in it have been able to see how hard this year has been. Especially because of the very high temperatures that have had to be endured (and there are still people who dare to say that there is no climate change…).
But, fortunately, the companies and people who have participated in the cork harvest have put all the means at our disposal to avoid accidents and greater evils, such as “heat strokes” and similar, with breaks and even stopping the cork harvest, in the face of the heat waves that have occurred, we can say with satisfaction that no one has had to visit any hospital, we have not had any nearby fires and, as had been planned, the quality obtained is within the parameters required by our technical department. Although the quantity that we had so ambitiously set ourselves has to remain at approximately 85% of what was expected. These are things of nature, which we cannot control. For this reason, and in a very specific way, we want to thank our employees, and all the workers who have participated in the harvest work (cork harvesters, muleteers, loaders, transporters, stackers, etc.) for the effort made and tell them that, in these days of athletes and Olympics, they are also worthy of a MEDAL.
If we remember, in our previous visualization of the GLM 1 patio, we still saw cork from 2023 waiting to be drilled. Today, on 24th August, we can guarantee that all the cork was fully processed and is already resting in our warehouse, in the form of a stopper, waiting for 2025 to be able to carry out the mission for which they were manufactured, which is none other than TO CORK EXCELLENT WINES.
Also, in the rest of the yard, the work was being finished and the cork was prepared so that, after cooking it, and its corresponding preparation and selection, it could be drilled as mentioned in the previous point.
THE 2024 CAMPAIGN: Even though we have not managed to obtain the expected quantity, we have managed to increase our storage by approximately 80% compared to the previous year. This will allow us (if customers want or need to) to be able to grow with them first of all, and of course aspire to grow in new markets, where we continue to dream of being able to be.
The quality, after the analysis and controls of our technicians, defines that the cork obtained from the 4 farms we have worked with are:
- 2 of them very good.
- And the other 2 of excellent quality.
Reason why we come to the conclusion that this year, we have the best cork overall in our history.
Unfortunately, good cork has not dropped in price, but we trust that, with total control of traceability, and the optimization of some production processes, we can ensure that our 2025 corks will have to increase their prices very little.
As usual, we are showing you the state of the yard as of 24th August, which we hope not to touch to make stoppers until the monthly analysis authorizes it and spring has begun.
