Reviewing an article that we posted on our blog in October 2009, where we recommended some specific cork stoppers for certain types of wine, we can see now, how things have changed in so few years.
We cannot deny, that today our experience of the world market is bigger, and the more extensive knowledge of the wine industry about our product makes it stricter and much more precise.
Now, to define the cork stopper for a top quality wine, we begin by studying the bottle. So, we will check the possible length and diameter of the cork stopper that we can use.
Of course, when the winemaker knows the future and the lifetime of his wine, it is totally necessary to define some information for the cork stoppers as important as the density and the diameter.
There is no doubt that, if we include a cork stopper with a larger diameter, we have to constrict the microcells of the cork stopper and, consequently to reduce the passage of oxygen to the wine. This clearly shows the reason why some types of white wine, fermented in barrel and with tendency to oxidize easily, are corked with high-quality natural cork stoppers of 49×26 mm.
This way, we achieve that the wine is a few more years in perfect condition without disagreeable reductions.
So, we are available to those interested, to take part in the studying of bottle/cork stopper and to do our bit so as to improve the stoppering of wines.
